Apple is reportedly working on a smart doorbell that could rival Amazon’s Ring, with an innovative twist. According to sources, the tech giant is diving deeper into the smart home market, aiming to compete with brands like Ring and Google’s Nest by adding more security products to its lineup.
One of the key features Apple is focusing on is privacy, which it plans to use as a major selling point. The new smart doorbell could let users store video footage directly on their iCloud account, giving them control over their data.
But what could really set this device apart is its ability to unlock doors without needing a key – or even an iPhone. Instead of using a traditional key or smartphone, the doorbell would leverage advanced facial recognition technology, similar to the Face ID feature found on iPhones.
This means the doorbell would scan your face and unlock the door automatically for people who are authorized to enter. Of course, for this to work, homes would need a compatible smart lock, but Apple is reportedly looking into making it compatible with existing third-party locks. There’s also a chance they might partner with a lock manufacturer to offer a more integrated solution.
According to Bloomberg, this new product is still in the early stages of development, with a potential release date set for the end of 2025. In addition to the doorbell, Apple is said to be planning updates for several of its existing devices, including a new Apple TV and a refreshed HomePod mini, both expected next year.
There are also rumors that Apple might release a more affordable second version of its Apple Vision Pro headset by late 2025 or early 2026. On top of that, Apple could be preparing to challenge Meta’s Ray-Ban smart glasses with a similar product of its own.
With all these upcoming innovations, it’s clear that Apple is aiming to expand its ecosystem of smart home devices and continue its push into new markets.
